Kevin Coughlin stated that one of his gripes was that Alex Arshinkoff was allowing Mayor Don Plusquellic to run unchallenged for Mayor. Mayor Plusquellic is one of the longest sitting mayors of any major US city. While as a conservative Republican I may not agree with all of his policies, namely his intent to raise taxes (again), Akron and Summit County citizens on both side of the political spectrum have been generally well served by the stability of his leadership.
Indeed if Mr.Coughlin felt so strongly about having a Republican run against the incumbant mayor, then with his strong political credentials, and the strong group (he states he has) backing him he should have moved into the city and run himself.
~ Proudly Conservative
Editor's note - Or he could have taken it upon himself to recruit a candidate given his independence from Chairman Arshinkoff...

It doesn't seem like anyone likes Coughlin.
In spite of the fact that he works in a county that is heavily Democrat, Mr. Arshinkoff, through the force of his personality and leadership, has been able to make the Summit County Republican party a formidable force, not just within the county, but the state and nation as well.
Coughlin's lack of a basic sense of ethics and lack of trustworthiness are so complete that he no longer is considered a credible representative of any part of Summit County or Ohio. We can't even trust him within our own party, let alone as an elected official. He's just looking out for himself.
I wonder where Kevin Coughlin believes he is going to raise the money it takes to fight the "D's" in Summit County. I can assure you it is not easy to accompolish what Alex does year in and year out, I know this first hand having been able to watch up close for many years in the 90's. No one eats sleeps and breathes Summit County Republican Politics like Alex. Kevin is naive to believe that after raising the money it takes that equal support of all GOP candidates would be a wise move. Not all races are equal and in some instances it is prudent to walk away from a fight rather than to waste valuable time money and resources on a loser no matter who the candidate is some elections do have predictable outcomes no matter what is done.
Proud to be a Falls Republican
Proud to Be a Falls Republican...... Kevin has burned all the bridges at the State level. He is termed out and needs to find another job at the taxpayers expense since he is not qualified to work in the real world. His ego is also something that would prevent him from making it through many doors in the real world. Finally, and a member of the Senate who lives in the Falls he has done nothing to benefit the City he lives in
