Why this Blog? Background.

On Thursday, August 14, 2007, State Senator Kevin Coughlin sent a letter to Republican Officeholders, Contributors and Supporters initiating a challenge to the three-decade long leadership of Summit Country Republican Chairman Alex R. Arshinkoff.

Keep Summit County Republicans Strong is dedicated to setting forth the facts concerning Chairman Arshinkoff's leadership and why his continued leadership is needed to insure the future success of the Summit County Republican Party.

It's dreadful that at a time where we Republicans need to be unified the most, Senator Coughlin has chosen to make this attack. Clearly, he has some ulterior motive in mind. Maybe he wants to make sure he has a job after 2010 when he's term-limited out.

The timing of this ill-advised and very public assault on the leadership of the Summit County Republican party demonstrates little regard for the interest of Republican candidates who will be facing election this fall, or for the overall best interest of the party itself.

How sad that Coughlin, a grown man, needs to resort to tantrums to get attention. Once he gets out of "time out" he needs to realize he is washed up in this town.

The hypocrisy of David Reilly's rant is amazing. While still in Alex's inner circle he was sharing personal information with the Dems (fellow Green councilman A.P.) to feed to the Scene Magazine staff in 2003). Could not win his own re-election as a sitting council president and now wants to chime in about Alex losing elections. David's first run for Green council made a Summit County record for campaign expenses in a city council race...nearly all funded by the party- what a disloyal hypocrite.

In David Reilly's defense, he did a masterful job fighting successfully for fully-paid health care for the council, despite city employees not receiving such benefits unless they worked 35 hrs or more. Green council is part-time and none of the council worked 35+ hrs as most had full time jobs. Way to stick up for the working stiffs in the city David...who remembered this and would not re-elect you. You need more than an editor.
